Programs & Operations Assistant

The Appalachian Resource Conservation & Development Council (ARCD.org) seeks a Programs & Operations Assistant to support delivery of excellent programming while maintaining high standards of financial accountability to our funders and community.  ARCD is a 32-year old non-profit corporation that promotes a thriving local farm and food scene in Northeast Tennessee while protecting the scenic, natural and cultural resources that make this region so special.  This Assistant position will work across 3 core programs: 1) Agricultural Enterprise; 2) Farmland Conservation; and 3) Nutrition & Food Access for All.  

This job requires a person who has a flexible mindset, positive can-do attitude, initiative to act and problem solve, communication skills and relational competence. They will support ARCD Program Directors with a variety of public-facing projects and workshops, and also shift gears to assist the Grants & Finance Manager with back-office expense tracking and grant management. 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Well-organized; Skill with excel spreadsheets and data entry.
  • Social media fluency and comfort following and employing current social media trends.
  • Experience in outreach with groups of all ages including children, adults, seniors.

Preferred:

  • Undergraduate degree in a field like Business; Marketing; Environment.
  • Knowledge of East Tennessee geography and environment.
  • Physically able to traverse farm and forest properties, streams.

As a general rule, though it will vary from season to season, program support may consume ~65% of work hours and finance support will require ~35% of work. Regular work activities will include: 

  • Phone calls, emails and other communications with program participants
  • Writing and scheduling Social Media
  • Making updates to the WordPress website
  • Creating graphics in Canva for marketing and promotion
  • Providing advance logistical support for workshops and events
  • Attending workshops and events: greeting people, taking initiative to help with set up, problem solving, photo documenting events
  • Keeping excellent timely records in databases
  • Maintaining contact databases for donors and participants
  • Maintaining the inventories of ARCD facilities, tech, swag and marketing
  • Gathering and organizing evaluation data for reporting and invoicing
  • Expense documentation, receipt processing, and record keeping

Salary range is $34,000 – $39,500 annually based on Qualifications, for a typical 35 hour work week with 13 Holidays and 168 hours of paid time off. Benefits include a matching 401k, FSA, short and long-term disability, dental, vision and life insurance.

Volunteer Opportunity:

Join the Tennessee Stream Team. Looking for an outdoor conservation volunteer commitment, that also gives back for flood recovery? ARCD and partners have built a dedicated team of committed volunteers who play a significant role in stabilizing barren and eroding rivers and streambanks along the Nolichucky left behind by Hurricane Helene. 

  • Volunteers like getting in the dirt, digging holes, kneeling, doing minor hand grading, planting trees and livestakes and spreading mulch, straw and grass seed.
  • Work days take place once per month as part of our post-Helene river recovery efforts.  
  • ARCD and our partners offer training, tools and equipment.
  • ARCD covers volunteers with adequate insurance, feeds them well, provides recreational and social opportunities, and furnishes them with branded Tennessee Stream Team t-shirts!
