What is Planned Giving?

Planned giving provides you with the opportunity to donate now as well as in the future. There are many ways to incorporate planned giving into your long-term financial plans.

What to Give

  • Cash — Starting now or later, by check, cash, or debit card, you can easily set up a monthly or one time donation.
  • Stocks & Bonds — Appreciated securities, including stocks or bonds, are a great way to give.
  • Real Estate — Appreciated real estate, such as a home, vacation property, undeveloped land, farmland, or commercial property can be transferred to ARCD.
  • Retirement Assets — Part or all of your unused retirement assets such as a gift from your IRA, 401(k), 403(b), pension, or other tax-deffered plan can be reallocated to ARCD.
  • Insurance — A life insurance policy that has outlasted its original purpose can also be reallocated to ARCD.

How to Give

Giving to Appalachian Resource Conservation & Development Council can be done either directly or in a way that can provide you with tax benefits or income. Popular ways to give include:

  • Bequest — Designate Appalachian RC&D as a beneficiary to your assets through a will, trust, or beneficiary designation form.
  • IRA Rollover — Congress has enacted a permanent IRA charitable rollover. As a result, IRA rollover gifts may be made to charitable organizations now and in future years.
  • Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust — Cash or appreciated property is transferred to fund a charitable remainder annuity trust. The trust sells the property tax-free and provides the donor with fixed income payments for life or for a term of years.
  • Charitable Lead Trust — A donor funds a trust that makes gifts to ARCD for a number of years. The donor’s family receives the trust remainder at substantial tax savings.
  • Life Estate Reserved — A donor gives their property to ARCD and retains the right to continue to use it during their life.
