Great news for vegetable lovers! The Appalachian RC&D Council is hosting the Tri-Cities’ first ever CSA Fair featuring farms from Northeast TN and Southwest VA! “CSA” stands for “Community Supported Agriculture” and is a healthy, affordable, and convenient weekly box of fruits and vegetables that lets you directly support a local farm. It’s kind of like a Wine of the Month Club, except for local food!
Typical CSA subscriptions can be purchased for weekly, every other week, or monthly pick up. Our region now has at least a dozen farms operating CSAs. While most are for fresh produce, there are also farms offering shares for grass fed meats, eggs, baked good and cut flowers.
We are hosting two events, one in Johnson City and one in Bristol. Both events will feature 5-8 farms offering a wide array of CSA options. You can meet the folks growing your food and choose the best CSA for your family’s needs. While you’re shopping, we’ll keep the kids entertained with fun activities including arts and crafts, seed sprouting, supporting native pollinators, and more! There will also be a photo booth set up, so folks can dress up like a farmer and take home a picture from the event!
Everyone who attends will be entered into a drawing for fun prizes, including free CSA shares, gift certificates, and farm fresh food!
