Horse Creek Farms, now with Little Lou’s Creamery, has been a family farm since the 1770s. A working dairy that milks for Ingles, and also raised row crops, they have turned part of the farm into a welcoming agritourism ice cream parlor. In 2018, Scott and Emily Armstrong took on the dairy and the farm Brand, deciding that value-added and tourism was key to being able to stay a dairy, given the declining prices of milk and increased input costs.
Little Lou’s Creamery is the ice cream parlor + local foods market. It’s right on the farm off Wilhoit Rd, Chuckey, overlooking the pasturing dairy cows and the Viking Mountain range of the Appalachians.
The ice cream parlor features ice cream by the scoop, made from Ingles’ milk and cream. The cafe also had sandwiches and a cold drinks menu, making it a true farm cafe.
