My 2026 gardening season got a slow start. We did start onions in February and I look forward to harvesting soon. The dry weather has delayed the “bulbing up” stage but they are doing something. This is my first year growing onions so I look forward to seeing what happens.
I started my squash later than usual and rabbits and groundhogs wiped out my first round of cucumbers, long beans, bush, beans, and summer lettuce.
I see it as an opportunity to learn more about succession planting. Ha ha ha. I am loving the hoops and pest cloth that were handed out. What a game changer that is.
I actually grew broccoli this year. My first! Very exciting! I was so inspired I put in an asparagus garden.
My garden is still growing and changing. Developing its space and shape as each bed gets added. I hope to add some cattle panel arches to accommodate cantaloupe and other vining fruits and veggies. It has been a great experience being part of the program and getting first hand information pertaining to this growing area. It has been helpful and it is nice to share info with fellow gardeners.
