This summer we had the opportunity to host a filmmaker, Eleanor Goodrich, through AmeriCorps VISTA Corporation for National and Community Service. Eleanor spent 10 weeks producing and directing two short films, along with a 30-second spot, on local food in the Tricities, interviewing farmers and businesses and finding some of the top exciting things going on with local agriculture in our region. Eleanor’s own experiences gave her a particularly keen eye for this project: her family runs a sustainable meat operation in Marion, VA, she has interned with the US.Department of Agriculture, Appalachian Sustainable Development and Virginia Assoc. for Biological Farming, and received her undergraduate degree at William and Mary in sustainable food studies through film. You can view Eleanor’s short films below.
