The Appalachian Resource Conservation & Development Council, headquartered in Johnson City, Tennessee, seeks a part-time (20 – 25 hour per week) Finance Manager. Because a part of the Financial Manager’s job will be to translate complex finance and accounting data into digestible information for staff, board and grant making agencies, they will have strong enough people skills and be able to get along with and communicate effectively with all types of people.
The ideal Financial Manager will also have an eagerness to participate as a team member in fundraising and development activities.
Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and/or demonstrate the real-world, practical experience with the training and education necessary to do the job.
The Appalachian RC&D (ARC&D) Council is a 31 year old non-profit organization that connects farmers, gardeners, food entrepreneurs – and those who want to be – with resources like training, funding, technical assistance, land, markets and each other while stewarding and preserving farmland, supporting rural folk arts and promoting access for all to nutritious local foods. Our ultimate aim is to promote & sustain healthy, thriving and resilient communities in northeast Tennessee and beyond through fostering a vibrant local farm and food scene. We have four core programs: 1) Farmer & Gardener Training; 2) Nutrition & Food Access for All; 3) Farmland Conservation; and 4) the Market & Information Hub. The Finance Manager person will be able to work very well in a collaborative team environment.
Salary range is $30,000 – $35,000 annually based on a typical 20-24 hour, flexible work week with 13 Holidays and 96 hours of paid time off.

Current projects for which they will be responsible include Veterans in Agriculture (TN AgVols), Agri-Biz Incubation & Development and the Field School. Candidates must have first-hand experience with farming, understand it as an entrepreneurial and business venture and be able to teach or coach our clients to help them reach their farm business goals.

Our ideal candidate will possess a combination of real-world, practical experience with the higher education necessary to do the job. This person will enjoy meeting people where they are, getting in the dirt and also operating in the office. Extensive travel will be required. Applicants with a bachelor’s degree or higher in agricultural sciences, business, finance, education, leadership or a related field are preferred but not necessary if they can demonstrate equivalent education or training and they meet the qualifications shown above. This person will be able to work very well in a collaborative team environment with the directors of ARCD’s other programs, and our support and administrative staff.
Salary range is $53,500 – $65,500 annually, commensurate with experience. This is based on a typical 35-hour, flexible work week with benefits that include a generous amount of paid time off, 13 paid Holidays off, vision/dental/life insurance, disability insurance, a flexible spending account and retirement plan.Â

Join the newly established Tennessee Stream Team. Looking for an outdoor conservation volunteer commitment, that also gives back for flood recovery? ARCD and partners are building a dedicated team of 10 – 15 committed volunteers who want to play a significant role in stabilizing barren and eroding rivers and streambanks along the Nolichucky left behind by Hurricane Helene.Â
 This is a perfect volunteer opportunity for active people who are available to commit invest 8 – 12 hours per month. Â
