On September 27, 2024, Hurricane Helene hit the high mountain peaks of western North Carolina and East Tennessee, bringing widespread destruction from flooding, landslides, and wind. Livelihoods and real human lives were washed away. For the farming community, we know an estimated 1,300 farms along the Nolichucky River were severely altered and damaged.
It’s not only what was washed away, but what was left behind: debris, cobble rock, tons of sand and silt, and a host of challenges to confront for years to come.
ARCD is committed to both Funding and Restoration services for family farms and food security in East TN….
and you can help play a role in this journey!
#1: donate & watch
With your help, ARCD is actively raising a goal of $150,000 —- from individuals, corporations, businesses, and any one who wants to see East TN family farms supported during this generational time of catastrophe, but also opportunity.
Last year, our Resilient Farmer Fund gave grants to 35 farms. Additionally, with Tractor Supply Company we gave out $100,000 worth of fencing, supplies and coats.
We want to help 35-50 more farms!
This video was filmed around one-year after the Hurricane, shows stories from two farms and how they have rebuilt, their challenges, and why community support is essential to recovering fully.
On November 15, we’re holding an amazing concert with Paramount Theater Bristol, thanks to several of our favorite nationally-known Artists, and friends, to raise awareness about Farmer Flood Recovery and the East TN farms. Join us!
From bluegrass, to songwriters, old time, rock and americana country, everyone will find a favorite artist here.
Share on Facebook or Instagram the video and how farm recovery is still an acute issue.
Invite friends to attend the Concert.
Ask your employer to donate to the Fund and sponsor the concert.
#4: JOIN THE tn sTREAM TEAM!
