February 26, 2019 — KINGSPORT, TN
Appalachian Resource Conservation & Development will host the annual CSA Fair in Kingsport on Saturday, March 2, 2019, from 10 AM until 1 PM at the Kingsport Farmers Market Pavillion.
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a subscription to a local farm for a share of production. Farms offer different goods and different purchasing options depending on the needs of the consumer and farmers. In most cases you pre-purchase a portion or all of your share at the beginning of the season. This gives the farmer the initial boost they need to plant crops while allowing you, the consumer to have a close relationship with where your food is coming from.
At a CSA Fair, consumers are given the invaluable opportunity to meet the farmers, ranchers, and growers who cultivate their food face to face. Consumers are encouraged to ask questions and engage with farmers to gain a better understanding of the local food initiative, and why it is beneficial to purchase your food locally.
Following the Kingsport CSA fair, a second fair will be held on March 30th in Jonesborough,TN. Each fair will feature CSA share options relevant to that particular area.
The following farms will be present at the Kingsport Fair:
River Creek Farm
Pollinator Produce Partners
Little Mountain Microgreens
McCracken Farms
Orchard Creek Farms
Appalachian RC&D works in partnership with Appalachian Sustainable Development, and the CSA Fairs along with other programming are made possible through a Farmers Market Promotion grant from the United States Department of Agriculture.
