Do you love fresh, local products like meat, veggies, and eggs? Keep reading to learn more about how you can access some of the best fresh, local products our region has to offer AND support our local farms!
You may have heard the term “CSA” or “CSA Shares.” Simply put, it stands for “Community Supported Agriculture”and is a subscription to a local farm. For an initial fee, you are pre-purchasing a share of the farm’s harvest, sort of like a shareholder of company stocks, but with delicious, locally grown food as your return.
Here’s how it works:
You sign up and select the following:
- The size of the share you want – most farms have a half or whole share amount while some offer a wide variety of share sizes.
- Your initial and recurring investment.
- How frequently you’d like to receive your share – this is usually weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.
- Your pickup location, according to the farms preset pickup locations. Some even offer delivery to home or office, like our very own Farms to Families CSA out of Hiltons, VA!
Simply show up on the scheduled day at the pickup location and enjoy the bounty you helped make possible!
Learn more about the different CSA options available in our region at one of our upcoming CSA Fairs! Conveniently located throughout the Tri-Cities, these events are free to attend. Mark your calendar today!
