Here is the Envirothon Report for 2017:

Farmhouse Gallery & Gardens, Unicoi, was the site of the April 11th Regional Northeast Tennessee Envirothon.  8 schools brought a total of 14 teams: Cherokee HS, Cloudland HS; Daniel Boone HS; David Crockett HS;  Dobyns-Bennett HS; Hampton HS; Johnson County HS, Sullivan South HS. (Sorry to Unaka High School, who has an emergency at the school and could not attend.)

The top 5 scoring teams were:

  1. David Crockett – 1st w/ 397 points
  2. David Crockett – 2nd w/ 318
  3. Daniel Boone – 3rd w/ 302
  4. Hampton – 4th w/ 287
  5. Cherokee – 5th w/ 286

Congrats to all! All teams seemed to have a great time outside learning real life outdoor skills in the sunshine. And they are part of a national event. According to the National Envirothon website, each year 500,000 people from 4,000 public and private high schools across North America participate in the competitions.

After the competition and lunch, there was a tour of the buffalo! Buffalo roam at Farmhouse Gallery & Gardens and the farm family, Johnny and Pat Lynch, have taken advantage of NRCS programs to be the best stewards of their water resources on the farm. NRCS Nichole Bishop co-lead the tour with Johnny Lynch.

Thank you to the following partners for providing set up, and testing and grading services–and for showing youth about environmental jobs:
