Rural Resources has just debuted a farmer’s market designed especially for children.  The purpose of this market is to educate children about the importance of shopping at our local farmer’s markets.   The children’s market has been set up twice this summer at the Greeneville Boys &Girls Club and is ready to begin popping up at local schools this fall.  Produce, purchased from local farmers, is made available for the children to purchase from the market using monopoly money.  The children get to take the produce home to help feed their families.  The market is both a farmer’s market demonstration and a lesson which explains to them the advantage of being connected to their food and of knowing where their food comes from as well as to give them real life experience for shopping at a Farmer’s Market.  Of course all our local farmer’s markets are advertised through this activity.
