As second year gardeners in the BIU program, this year we decided to do try a couple of new things.
For instance, we switched to raised garden beds this time around and so far everything seems to be growing a lot better than before, which I am very thankful for! Though we haven’t been able to harvest anything yet, I am looking forward to the first harvesting of the season which should happen here soon!
This year, we also are gardening on our front porch more to see if perhaps the sunlight hits better there or if that area receives more rain. On the front porch, we have peppers and mint on the table. Then the cucumbers and onions are in their own pots. In the raised beds out back, we have two kinds of potatoes, basil, rosemary, tomatoes, sage, and bush beans. I’m trying to do more companion gardening this time around to hopefully limit the amount of “bad” pests and bring about the good ones that will for sure help our garden grow!
This whole experience has been life changing as it has truly brought our family closer together. My parents even got into gardening and I have given some left over plants/seeds to them. They live about 30 mins or so from us so it will be interesting to see the difference in how the same plants/seeds grow there verses here at home.
This gardening season, I was also more cautious about making my gardening plan and made it a point to stick to it if possible. So far, it seems to be going quite well although I don’t want to jinx it. Let’s hope for a a great harvest this gardening season! Happy Gardening!
