This year marks some big milestones for us. Not only has the Quilt Trail been around for 10 years in northeast Tennessee, and grown to include over 100 sites, but the Appalachian RC&D Council looks back on 20 years of strengthening rural economy since it applied for charter from the United States Department of Agriculture in 1993. For 20 years, the US Department of Agriculture supported the RC&D and its programs fully. In 2011 that funding was officially terminated for the foreseeable future. We now lack staff and budget for general operating expenses to continue our important educational and conservation programs. This celebration weekend is made possible by sponsors, volunteers and AmeriCorps VISTA. We are turning to all friends, fans, Council members, volunteers, and supporters to celebrate with us at two great events this October, 2013. Thank you for showing your support by joining us.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 11

This promises to be glorious fall evening on the grounds of the historic Embree House and Farm, Telford Tennessee. Dinner will feature fresh farm ingredients from our 6-county region, prepared by the gourmet chefs at Tributary Restaurant (Mountain City), served by the creek across from the Embree Quilt Barn, under autumn twilight.
The Embree stone house, built circa 1791, is on the National Historic Register, and is one of the oldest homes in Tennessee. The farm has played a role in the lives of Davy Crockett, John Sevier, anti-slavery leader Elihu Embree, and was on the Underground Railroad. Guests can take advantage of tours of the house and farm.
We will be joined by special guest Donna Sue Groves, of Adams County Ohio, founder of the original Quilt Trail in Ohio, and connector of arts and communities. We will recognize Council members, staff, volunteers, and supporters who through out the years have made it possible for the RC&D to become the advocate for the “local lands” and “local hands” of our region. Spend a day being treated like family along the scenic Northeast Tennessee Quilt Trail. Plan your self-touring route, choosing from over 30 destinations exclusively open for meeting and greeting quilt barn owners, hearing family stories, and enjoying antique quilts in celebration of the 10-year anniversary of the Quilt Trail. Along the way guests will discover on-site demonstrations, refreshments, quilt shows, special discounts and coupons, and local arts, crafts, and produce. A regional heritage festival like no other!
Your guide and schedule to sites that are participating in the Open House takes the form of a commemorative Passport custom designed by Hillhouse Graphics in Kingsport!
